Gavin Pennings and his wife, Noila, have exhausted all options searching for a treatment for their son, Joshua. Depraved personalities are battling for supremacy in the teenager’s mind, pushing him to the brink of suicide. In desperation, Gavin tracks down Lucifer, realizing he may be his last hope for finding a cure for Joshua.

When Gavin meets Lucifer, he finds he’s nothing like the cloven-hoofed Satan he learned about in his seminary training. In fact, he’s quite affable and seems genuinely interested in helping Joshua. But Gavin is sure he isn’t seeing the whole picture.

Soon, Gavin and his family are split between Lucifer’s massive aircraft carrier off the coast of South Florida and Chimeruth Village, a mysterious Antarctican outpost on the Getz Ice Shelf, a place inhabited by strange creatures and futuristic technology. Before they know it, Gavin, Noila, and Joshua are embroiled in Lucifer’s monumental quest to save the world. When Lucifer reveals his final hand, however, and demands something from the family in exchange for the help he provided, someone will not make it home.

The Antarcticans eBook James Suriano

The Antarcticans is an absorbing science fiction/fantasy novel about a pastor who makes a deal with Satan in which Satan agrees to cure his son of his intractable childhood schizophrenia in exchange for the pastor's wife doing long term, cooperative classified biology research in Antarctica with the help of the alien residents. Does it sound kooky? Sure it does, but this author does a fantastic job of blending these seemingly diametrically opposing ideas to make a smooth, well balanced novel. The writing is easy to follow and unlike many science fiction authors, he doesn't invent a lot of nonsense words or insert a million characters that are impossible for the reader to keep track of.

I'm no science fiction reading expert, being a pretty new reader in this genre, but I would characterize this novel as being one of those in which the relationships between the characters are explored more than anything else. It is not one of those hard science fiction novels. It actually has little science at all. It's an interesting mix of fantasy and a bit of science fiction with a unique premise. It isn't a thriller; the writing was interesting enough to keep me reading, but it was pretty even throughout, with few highs and lows, so if you're looking for something to keep you on the edge of your seat, this isn't the book for you. If you're tired of the same old spaceship/orphaned warrior sci/fi fantasy routine, I encourage you to try this one. The best thing of all is that it's a standalone, short novel. (Yes, they actually STILL make standalone fantasy books nowadays!) It's around 300 pages, and at the end, the reader actually has answers and a resolution, instead of having to invest a lot of money and years of your life wondering what happened to this and that character in an endless series of sequels. Happy reading!

The Antarcticans eBook James Suriano Reviews

There has to be some attempt to make a science fiction book believable. There are none in this book; the science is a joke. If it is fantasy, then it is a pretty boring fantasy. Very little happens in this book, and the few odd things that the author introduces, such as Lucifer having a private yacht the size of an aircraft carrier, or an unknown species of Antarctic sentients, do not save it.
look at th above. i need words so here im listening to will smith men in black and like modest mouse i will be readin more from this author !
This book may challenge your beliefs and presents challenge to traditionally held paradigms while providing some science fiction fun along the way.
So I was eagerly awaiting James Suriano's next book and man, was it worth the wait! This book was brilliant. A smart, indepth story that challenges your mind and expands your thinking. The author is so very imaginative and creative, each character pulls you all in, their pain, joys and hard decisions become your own. This is a MUST MUST read for anyone looking for a new frontier. This guy really is the weaving Genesis.
It was well-worth the wait to read this book. A superb epic fantasy. It combined fantasy and sci fi to make an interesting and unique story in the wonderful setting of Antarctica. For a fantasy, the characters were well-developed , complex and very realistic. Lucifer was nothing like the Biblical Lucifer. I highly recommend this book.
